Status: Category II. A declining species with local habitats.

Distribution: The coasts of Southern Europe, water bodies of Western Siberia, Asia Minor, some lakes in Mongolia and Xinjiang. In Kazakhstan, it nests in water bodies of the Ural Region (Kushum, KamyshSamara Lakes), on the northern and northeastern coast of the Caspian Sea, in the Turgay Hollow, the Naurzum Nature Reserve, the Tengiz-Kurgalzhin Basin, on the lakes of the Chushkakol system (the middle reaches of the Syr Darya), and Lake. Balkhash, in the deltas of the Ili, Tentek and Black Irtysh rivers.
