Population: About 1270 buzzards have been known to nest in the Zhambyl district of North Kazakhstan. The global buzzard population is estimated at between 2 million 3.4 million adults, but these data require further confirmation.
Status: Non-endangered species of economic value other thanhunting.
Habitat: The buzzard breeds in the valley of the middle reaches of the Zhaiyk river, in Northern Kazakhstan, in the Kokshetau highlands, in the forests of the mountain groups of the Kazakh Melkosopochnik, in Kalba, in the Southwestern Altai and the Black Irtysh. It lives in floodplain forests, as well as in lowland and mountain coniferous forests with open steppe areas located nearby. It isoccasionally found in the Naurzum forest, and is commonly seen duringthe migration period.
