Population: Common species. There is no exact data on the number of Eurasian Bittern in Kazakhstan. The global number of birds isestimated at about 115-340 thousand individuals. There are estimated to be fewer than 1,000 individuals in Russia during migration.
Status: Non-endangered species with economic valueother than hunting.
Habitat: The Eurasian bitten breedswidely on lakes and reservoirs of lowland Kazakhstan. It is also found on the plains during migration periods, and it sometimes (but very rarely) visits mountain lakes (Markakol) and the foothills of the Western Tien Shan mountains. Small numbers of the Eurasian bittern winter south of Baikagum, Turkestan, and Shymkent.
