Distribution: The original breeding area covered part of Asia from Turkey to India and Central Asia. In the 20th century, it spread throughout Europe and some parts of Asia and North Africa, including very widely in the European part of Russia. In cities and towns in the steppe and forest-steppe zones, the species is common. It has settled in the south; some birds migrate from the northern regions for the winter.
