Population: The global population is estimated at morethan 3,000 individuals. In 2003-2007, 14 horses from German zoos were brought to the Altyn-Emel National Park. In 2024, seven individuals brought from zoos in the Czech Republic and Germany were released in Central Kazakhstan.

Status: A rare and endangered species (Category I).

Habitat: Przewalski's horse is a typical inhabitant of dry wormwood grass steppes. The species was originally described in Central Dzungaria (Western China). In the past, its range covered vast territories of the Asian steppes, extending from the east of the Volga river to the foothills of the Tien Shan mountains and theMongolian Altai, including Transbaikalia.
