Population: Thenumber in Kazakhstan was previously estimated at between 80 and 100 pairs, now it is several dozen. The global number of mature Griffon Vultures is estimated at between 80 thousand and 900 thousand.
Status:
Habitat: Griffon Vultures breed in dry, rocky mountains such as the Chu-Ili and Karatau Mountains, where there are several colonies. It is foundalmost everywhere during the migration period including in Naurzum,Central Kazakhstan, Southern Ustyurt, Betpak-Dal, Saur and Southern Altai. In winter, birds havebeen observed atthe Shardara reservoir.
